Cost of Feed

The cost of dog feed can be an important factor in the case of feeding your dog, as the cost varies with different feed items.  Cost plays into various factors during the preparation of food and affects the balanced feeding of dogs with proper vitamin and mineral needs as well as their supplementation in food.

Cost will not usually matter much as the dog’s value is assessed through companionship and happiness derived by dog's owner. Though the cost of different foods may be comparatively more, many dog owners don’t mind much because of the owner's benefits of protection, guidance, etcetera.

The selection of ingredients for the home made food, however, needs to be based on the quality of the feed.  Even when the quality is greater, some owners may seek cheaper items only. However, recommended nutrition guidelines can be obtained from national nutrient academies in many nations and these will provide great information on feeding.

One can correlate the cost factor of items available in their own country with preparation.  Generally, commercially prepared feed is expensive, especially those utilizing modern technologies in food preparation - oven-baking, sterilization of cans, air and freeze drying, etcetera.

Canned food costs more than dry feed. However, the cost of feed depends on the ingredients in the food.  Food allergies must be monitored during feeding, especially with cheaper cost items. Still, most often, quality is not compromised just for the cost factor.

Most of the dog feed and food mention the cost in the label or on shelves. Hence, the dog owner will not have any problem in making a decision purchases.
