Dry Versus Canned food

These two types of food are preferred differently in varied grades by dogs.  Dogs like dry food only if it is tasty.  However, in comparison, many dogs prefer only canned food. The reason for a dog's preference is simple: with canned food, the moisture is about seventy to eighty percent, but with dry food, it is only about ten percent.

However, if you view it in terms of nutrients, often dry food contains nearly ninety percent of needed nutrients whereas canned food, most times, has a far less percentage.  Hence, to provide the needed nutrition, the dog must eat more of the canned food than of the dry food.  So, compare the cost factor for you and the benefit for the dog.  While many dry foods are soybean and rice based, typically soy products are structured well enough to appear as pieces of meat.  Presently, some dry foods are based on corn.

Some beef and chicken based feeds are canned along with mineral and vitamin supplements to provide for the dog's health.  Larger dogs that weigh more than thirty pounds need to be occasionally fed semi-moist food with their dry food diet.

This is necessary to satisfy receptors in the stomach.  Due to the fact that larger dogs need to eat more food, only moist food can satisfy this criteria.  Still, it may not be practical with larger dogs.  The small dogs may obtain satisfactory levels of nutrients if fed just moist food.  However, the caloric density of ry food should not be missed.  Enriched dry foods are highly encouraged rather than the non-enriched foods.
