First Steps in Grooming

Grooming is one of the most important activities for the dog owner. If the dog owner is not responsible with grooming, then the dog may become afflicted with different diseases. The steps of grooming consist of maintaining the coat, the nails, and the ears. Maintaining the coat consists mainly of enrichment through proper bathing, combing, drying of skin, and more. The dog should not be bathed daily as this interferes with the skin’s natural characteristics such as insulation.

Only use conditioners and shampoos purposed for dogs. Combing should be carried out with a soft brush intended for use on dogs. Still, there are a variety of brushes available, and, depending on the breeds, one can use a different brush. Grooming the coat by comb needs to be performed daily, and the removed hair, if any, should be removed to a dust bin. Otherwise, when a fan is switched on, the hair will become airborn fly and may enter a person's nostrils.

Nail-maintenance is, perhaps, the first step to grooming. Nail areas to be clipped are always light colored a sopposed to the reddish area of the nail closer to the paw. While holding your dog's feet, always keep a firm grip. With a loose grip, the dog may well take the upper hand during the clipping and injury may occur to you or the dog.

Never clip too much as this may lead to injury of nail and surrounding tissue. always have at hand all materials needed for clipping before starting the procedure. Use a sharp clipper designed for use on dogs. It is best to have the dog on a raised place so to control of the animal, and it is much easier.

Ear canals should be checked frequently, and sterile cotton may be used for cleaning. Grooming associated guidelines need to be followed strictly by the dog owners.
