Home Dental Care for Dogs

Home dental care should be given more emphasis due to dental diseases emerging in the healthcare of pets like dogs. When providing home dental care, if you suspect an emergence of any of the dental diseases, immediately engage a veterinarian for intervention.  

Provide bone material without very sharp points to the dogs as they love to chew on them, swallowing the bitten pieces.  Such activity helps them develop strong tooth structure in a natural way.

Bear in mind that some breeds such as Pekingese are more prone to developing a dental disease because the teeth are closely crowned in the oral cavity due to the small size of the these dogs. Hence, these dogs need to be checked often for excessive plaque formation in the home itself.

Recreational raw beef bones are wonderful for keeping the tooth structure of your dog clean and free from the formation of plaque and the buildup of bacteria.  Tooth brushes are available for use in the care of dogs, and one needs to be careful the brush on their dog. Tooth brushes are to be used only with special kinds of pastes as recommended by veterinarians for the home care of dogs. 

Specially prepared foods are available in pet shops to remove tartar and plaque from teeth.  Dry dog food and toys made especially for adding strength to teeth are often used at home for the best teeth cleaning.  

Plaque must be removed intermittently in the home to avoid the occurrence of periodontal diseases, which are quite common among dogs.  Dental wipes are available in pet shops and may be safely used at home.  This helps remove loosely attached palaque and tartar.
