Negotiating the Deal

This post is strictly a record of the exchange between MeMyselfAndI and napoleonfirst on Digital Point's forums. To fully understand the context, please see Scammed on DP's B/S/T Forum. These are the private messages (pm's) negotiating the deal referred to in the aforementioned post:

  • I asked for details - whatever is relevant. I tell him I am excellent at rewriting.
  • He tells me "they" need 200 articles with short modifications, and I can start with 10 at fifty cents each.

I thought his reply was odd as he didn't specify what "short modifications" are. I already knew that from his post on the forum. Memo to self: the customer needs to be specific to some degree.

  • I then asked if he pays via PayPal, the file format of the articles, and when he needs them.
  • He tells me he needs them in five hours, and the files are in text format.
  • I tell him I can't [it's late]. I didn't realize he would need them so quick.
  • He replies that he needs them in sixteen hours.

His reply didn't seem so strange. After all, I believed, that while he was wanting the work done quickly, he just wanted it done. Memo to self: if the customer "expands" his requirements to suit your services, you need to learn the reason.

  • I tell him that should work, to email the articles, and I will only accept them if they were text files. I also tell him just ten to start per his previous pm.
  • He tells me, "Ok. I will send them in just some minutes."

Just over an  hour later, I was asleep at the time, I receive the articles in a  zipped file. They are all text files. Now, the guy's English is not that great, but then most people are not careful with their pm's among other things. He was asking for "short modifications," after all.
